After the death of his father, Greg moves to the small town of Deep Cove, Newfoundland with his mother. While out sailing, he discovers a family of refugees, whom he slowly befriends. Unfortunately, even the consent of the entire community cannot keep the family secret from the authorities. When they try to flee, they are caught in a terrible storm, and only Greg and his friend Harold, a gruff old sailor, can help them.
